The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Many hands make light work. Better together. Strength in numbers. Teamwork makes the dream work.
There are many ways to say it (some more cheesy than others), but what do we really mean when we say there’s “power in together”?
At Salal, we believe that even the smallest actions, when combined, can add up to big, transformative impacts. This idea of people coming together to help one another and serve the greater community is at the heart of the credit union movement and has been central to who we are since our founding in 1948.
Salal is a not-for-profit financial co-op owned by its members. Our number one goal is your financial well-being, not making profits for stockholders. Any profits we do make are reinvested into our members and their communities. Our first priority is to provide good rates, low fees, and dedicated personal service to help people and businesses thrive. But the benefits of Salal membership go beyond that.
As a financial institution, we believe we have a crucial role in facilitating collective action to build a better future. Under the guidance of our all-volunteer board of directors, we’re committed to giving 5% of our annual income to causes our members care about. This means you are helping make a difference simply by doing your everyday banking and financing with Salal.
Here are just a few examples of “Power in Together” in action:
Helping Each Other Achieve Financial Wellness
Unlike traditional banks that operate to maximize profits for stockholders, credit unions like Salal are owned by their members. We return our profits to our members as lower loan rates, higher savings rates, fewer fees, and dedicated service.

Empowering You and Your Neighbors
Salal not only offers competitive rates and fewer fees. We support communities by providing banking services to those often rejected by traditional banks, including individuals rebuilding credit and businesses in the cannabis industry.
